Pixel art community Pixel Joint recently had a jam session in which they asked their members to created their own pixelated currency and the results were all pretty awesome, but my favorites are these geeky jumpoffs inspired by Pac-Man, Minecraft, Space Invaders, Street Fighter, and Doctor Who. Check ‘em past the break.

Feast your eyes on Douglas Schatz's submission 'isometricGradientSketch06.03.13.gif', an animated GIF created in the pixel art program Grafx2, using a process called “color cycling” or palette shifting. Because this process is no longer supported by modern file formats, the image was captured with the program ‘Capture Me’ and imported into Photoshop as a movie.
